Public electric vehicle charging stations are being placed in many cities across the country. What many don't know is that these stations are not, in fact, free.
Ratepayers, including low-income consumers, are paying for these stations for the rich owners of electric cars. Surveys show that owners of electric cars tend to be wealthy, with close to 80% of owners earning more than $100,000 a year.
This is not fair. Low-income consumers should not be paying for the rich elite's electric cars charging stations.
Millions of low-income consumers are currently paying higher energy bills so government can build charging stations for expensive electric cars. Consumers should not foot the bill for Jay Z's fancy electric car.
